lyrics

Blackbird hit the glass
Crash was sudden death was fast
And so I penned an epitaph
Grab the moment hold it fast
And they told us, ‘Jackie’s gone’

Well Jackie rode this train
He was crossing the tracks 'in another man's rain'
Doll by Doll— to sweet elixir
Lines and rhymes combine addiction
But Jackie made his way back to the game

It’s really not that easy
To always just behave
And all grace you thought you had
It keeps pulling away…
You're battle weary wandering
From every angle, sink or swim
But you’re not going down today
Now, Jackie’s coming round to play

Blackbird on this tavern roof
Troubadour she sings the blues,
Loss and love and chagrin tunes
And politics and platitudes
And Jackie said ‘keep following the muse’

Now every time the ending twists
Un-poetic-justice of 'what ifs?'
A fall that breaks, a hand that lifts
'The pearl, the lamb, her crucifix'
And Jackie loved her, said he always will

And Jackie said he liked my words
Well I guess he said that to other girls
Then he checked out of this motel
To rendezvous with Judee Sill
I remember the night when we first heard
The voice, the songs, that man who blurred
Barfly slews with skater’s truths
Sometimes there’s just too much, too much to lose…

Can you bring me a road
That will take me home?
Or is home another crowded room
With no one I know? …
We're battle weary wandering
From every angle it's sink or swim
But we’re not going down today
Now Jackie’s coming round to play
But we’re not going down today
And we’re not going down
And we’re not going down
And we’re not going down today….

And Jackie - he rode this train
